Microsoft co-founder and former CEO Bill Gates and his wife Melinda Gates announced on Monday that they were separating after 27 years of marriage.
In a joint statement on Twitter, he said that “after much consideration and a lot of work on their relationship”, they had decided to participate.
He tweeted, “Over the past 27 years, we have raised three incredible children and built a foundation that works around the world so that all people can lead healthy, productive lives.” In this next phase of our life as a couple “.

However, he further wrote that they (Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation) will continue our work together at the Foundation. He also asked for “space and privacy” for his family as they begin a new life.
Even though comments were disabled for posts shared from Bill Gates’s official Twitter handle, nearly 46,000 people quoted his tweet and shared his thoughts on the separation of one of the world’s most powerful and influential couples.
Karl Theodore Bergstrom, a theoretical and evolutionary biologist and a professor at the University of Washington at Seattle, wished the former couple the best going forward and said, “I respect the candor, sorry for the fact that you got the public eye This has to be dealt with, and greatly appreciates your ability to continue to cooperate in your shared commitment to foundation work.
Good luck to both of you moving forward. I respect the candor, regret the fact that you have to deal with the public eye in all of this, and greatly admire your ability to continue to cooperate in your shared commitment to foundation work. Godspeed. https://t.co/bRTkAZCYWb

Many questioned his stand on secrecy. Some expressed displeasure.
Isn’t it ironic that the man who uses technology against us is asking for privacy. https://t.co/Rt64gOCWQJ

The couple jointly run the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, which over the years has donated more than $ 50 billion to COVID-19, the fight against climate change, and women’s rights advocates. In an emailed statement, a spokesperson for the foundation said the couple would continue to be co-chairs and trustees of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
