Sputnik V, the world’s first COVID-19 vaccine, will be “highly effective” against the new strain of coronovirus found in Europe, said Kirill Dimitrig, chief executive officer (CEO) of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, the company that co-developed Vaccination.
“According to our information, Sputnik V will be as effective against the new strain of coronovirus found in Europe as against existing strains. Sputnik V is showing its efficacy over a period of time despite previous mutations of S-protein . “He said, according to Sputnik V’s Twitter handle.
Mr. Dimitriz said it would work jointly with another vaccine manufacturing company, AstraZeneca, to combat the new mutation strain of COVID-19.
Joint work with such a pharmaceutical giant as AstraZeneca is becoming particularly important today, to counter new mutation strains of coronovirus.
The CEO of RDIF also stated that Sputnik V has been registered for use in Belarus.
Last week, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Sputnik V is more than 95 percent effective.
Taking to Twitter, Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) quoted Mr. Putin as saying that some health experts claimed that the vaccine’s protection level reaches 96–97 percent.
Russia became the first country to register the world’s first COVID-19 vaccine on August 11, named after Russia’s first satellite.
